The Safe Driving Centre & Skid Control School

began its road driving training and improvement activities at the beginning of the 1970s at Osogna near Bellinzona, in the Canton of Ticino, Switzerland.

Safedriving

Unnus Hendrichs, its founder and present director, after many years of sports experience in competitive car racing, decided to dedicate himself to his true passion: the teaching of road driving and set up a training centre at Osogna, near Bellinzona, where he had a special track built for skid control, safe driving and defensive driving exercises.

The Safe Driving Centre employs only qualified experts and certified instructors in compliance with the requirements of the Swiss Council for Road Safety.

Where We Are

Safe Driving Centre carries on its road driving training and improvement activities not only at Osogna, in the Canton of Ticino, Switzerland, but also in other European countries and worldwide using local corporate or public facilities.

THE TARGET POPULATION OF OUR COURSES

Safe Driving Centre & Skid Control SchoolAll the courses of the The Safe Driving Centre & Skid Control School are recommended by the Swiss Council for Road Safety and may be attended by anyone wanting to check up and perfect their own driving skills, such as, for example:

  • drivers with any kind of driving experience
  • drivers of public and private vehicles, drivers of public emergency services, such as police officers, ambulance drivers, fire fighters, military personnel, etc.
  • drivers of heavy motor vehicles transporting toxic, inflammable or explosive substances.

OBJECTIVES OF OUR TRAINING ACTIVITIES

The programmes of the Safe Driving Centre & Skid Control School are suitable for all road users.

Safe Driving Centre & Skid Control SchoolThey are also intended for the personnel of public and/or private facilities and organizations intending to prepare and train their own personnel engaged in risky activities on the road under difficult and dangerous conditions. These users thus have the opportunity not only to reduce the number of accidents or even to eliminate them completely, but also to reduce or eliminate the increasingly high costs involved, besides improving their image and the quality of work of their personnel.

The main objective is to protect the safety of all motorists by correcting and improving the behaviour and mentality of those at the steering wheel of a vehicle, while also favouring the learning of the basic techniques of safe driving in emergencies or in difficult road and weather conditions.

Motorists must feel themselves not only safe in their vehicles and on the road, but above all they must be aware of their own driving behaviour. It has been established that over 90% of all road accidents are due to human error and therefore to behaviour. Improving and correcting behaviour to adapt it to the varying traffic situations dramatically reduces the risks of accidents and therefore saves many lives.

Safe Driving Centre & Skid Control School therefore considers it essential to pursue the following objectives:

  • knowledge of the physical limits of a vehicle
  • a check-up on one’s own driving skills
  • learning and improving vehicle control techniques
  • experience of the consequences of incorrect driving behaviour
  • mastery of the vehicle under critical and difficult conditions
  • acquisition of defensive and preventive behaviour techniques

Your objective and ours is the same: to reduce the number of road accidents and save lives and to make sure that the drivers of people and goods always reach their destinations punctually and in safety.
