Advanced Safe and Defensive Driving Course:
for Drivers of Vehicles Transporting Toxic, Inflammable and Explosive Substances (Type Adr)

AIM

To educate and create awareness in the participants concerning correct and safe driving behaviour as well as to improve driving techniques during the transport of toxic-harmful-inflammable-explosive substances with heavy vehicles.

TARGET POPULATION

The course is particularly aimed at all drivers of heavy vehicles who for professional reasons transport toxic-harmful-inflammable-explosive substances.

WHERE

• In Switzerland at the Safe Driving Centre & Skid Control School at Osogna in the Canton of Ticino, Switzerland (about 130 km from Milan and 15 km from Bellinzona)
• At public or private companies with ample spaces available for exercises

COURSE DURATION

The course normally lasts 1 day, unless agreed otherwise.

NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS

The course is normally held for 8-12 participants, except for special cases to be agreed beforehand.

COURSE CONTENT

The course will develop the concepts of safe driving and techniques ensuring control of the vehicle under particularly difficult conditions including the load, with the alternation of practical tests including: correct position at the steering wheel, how to avoid unexpected obstacles, how to brake in various conditions, how to control various types of skidding, etc.

Theoretical and practical concepts of load dynamics will also be developed such as: displacement of the centre of gravity, tipping-over point, braking exercises, spreading weights, Kammsch circle, power graphs and ecological (economic) driving.

VEHICLES FOR THE PRACTICAL EXERCISES

The practical exercises are normally conducted using either vehicles provided by the Centre or the participants’ own service vehicles according to agreements to be reached beforehand.

INSTRUCTORS

The course is taught by trained instructors with tested professional experience.

ATTENDANCE CERTIFICATE

At the end of the course, an attendance certificate is issued bearing the participant’s name.

COST

To be determined depending on the number of participants, the vehicles used and the place where the course will be held.
